Highlights of my Tea Journey So Far

Time to read:

1–2 minutes

My tea journey has been short, but full so far. It’s been less than one month since I registered to go to the Tea Expo and less than two weeks since I attended. To say I’ve learned a lot is an understatement. I can’t sum up everything I’ve learned, but I thought it might be helpful to document the highlights.

  1. Camellia sinensis
All tea, whether black, green, white, or oolong, comes from this one leaf! I had no idea. I assumed black and green tea were completely different plants.
  2. Iced tea
A couple different speakers noted that iced tea is much more popular in the U.S. than other places. About 70:30 here and the opposite everywhere else.
  3. Water temperature
I just assumed you put hot or boiling water in tea and that would do. Incorrect. Different types of tea require different water temperatures. So, I’m in the market for an electric kettle which will give me a variety of water temperatures to choose from.
  4. Tea pets
